Description
The mouse monoclonal antibody clone WM15 binds to human CD13, a 150-170 kD type II transmembrane glycoprotein also known as aminopeptidase N, APN, and gp150. The antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope. The CD13 antigen is present on most cells of myeloid origin, including granulocytes, monocytes, mast cells, and GM-progenitor cells. Most AML and CML also express it in myeloid blast crisis, and it is expressed in a smaller fraction of lymphoid leukemias. CD13 is also present on fibroblasts, endothelial cells, epithelial cells from renal proximal tubules and intestinal brush border, bone marrow stromal cells, osteoclasts, and cells lining bile duct canaliculi. CD13 is absent from normal lymphocytes, platelets, and erythrocytes. CD13 is reported to have many different functions, including degradation of enkephalins and endorphins, terminal degradation of peptides, amino acid scavenging, antigen processing, and adhesion and migration of cells. CD13 is also reported to serve as a receptor for some strains of human coronaviruses (HCV).
