The mouse monoclonal antibody clone AK2 binds to human CD42b (GPIb alpha), a membrane glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 135-145 kDa. This protein is expressed on the surface of platelets and megakaryocytes, serving as an important marker for platelet activation. CD42b plays a crucial role in coagulation and the formation of blood clots by being a part of the GPIb-IX-V receptor complex, which helps attach platelets to surfaces that promote blood clotting. CD42b interacts with von Willebrand factor (VWF), thrombin, and several coagulation factors, and its extracellular domain can also influence metastasis. It is primarily found on platelets and megakaryocytes in the bone marrow. Additionally, various polymorphisms and mutations in CD42b are associated with Bernard-Soulier syndrome and platelet-type von Willebrand disease.

RECOMMENDED USAGE

Each lot of this antibody is quality control tested using flow cytometric analysis. For flow cytometric staining, the suggested use of this reagent is 5 μL per 1 million cells in a staining volume of 100 μL. If whole blood is analyzed, then use 5 μL per 100 μL. It is recommended that users titrate the antibody to obtain the optimal result for their specific application.
