While CD25 can bind IL-2 alone without inducing signaling, it is primarily found as part of the high-affinity IL-2 receptor complex, along with CD122 (IL-2 receptor beta) and CD132 (common gamma chain). CD25 is expressed during T and B cell development, on activated T and B cells, macrophages, and at high levels on natural regulatory T cells (Tregs) in the thymus and periphery, as well as on induced peripheral Tregs. IL-2 receptor signaling is involved in lymphocyte proliferation, survival, and differentiation, influencing Th17 and Treg cell function.
