Depending on the cytoplasmic domain, CD56 exists in three main isoforms: NCAM-120, NCAM-140, and NCAM-180. CD56, also known as NCAM (Neural Cell Adhesion Molecule), Leu-19, and NKH1, is present in NK and NKT cells. CD56 is also expressed in the brain (cerebellum and cortex) and at neuromuscular junctions.
