CD58 is a widely expressed 40–70 kDa cell surface glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily and is present on hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic cells, including lymphocytes, monocytes, dendritic cells, endothelial cells, and epithelial cells. CD58 functions as a key adhesion and costimulatory molecule by binding CD2 on T cells and natural killer (NK) cells, facilitating immune synapse formation, T-cell activation, and cytotoxic effector function. The CD2–CD58 interaction is important in both antigen-dependent and antigen-independent immune responses and contributes to intercellular adhesion and immune regulation.
