BATF is a 14 kDa member of the AP-1 family of transcription factors and is involved in the repression of other AP-1 family members. BATF is upregulated in activated T cells when compared to naive T and B cells and has been shown to be critical for Th17, but not Th1 or Th2 differentiation. In Th17, BATF interacts with the promoters of IL17, IL17F, IL21 and IL22.
